Me? Blog?

Blogging…hmm…this is kind of a new concept for me. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but to write something that would be read by millions of people around the world? (Okay, slight exaggeration there.) I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about the idea. At first, I thought it would be pretty cool, but after my initial excitement wore off, I decided I’d just play it by ear and see how the first few posts went. Let me know what you think, however if it turns out to be a total flop, perhaps it would be better if you didn’t say anything…maybe that way I could keep up a good opinion of myself. :)
I’ve been thinking a lot lately, (which, for those of you who know me, may come as a shock), about some very important events in the history of our country and, ultimately, our freedom. Earlier today I was working in my history, which happens to be my favorite subject, and the part I was in told about various battles in the civil war. Since I already know quite a bit about the civil war as I have done extensive study and research on it, I read with an open mind and curiosity, but a certain amount of disinterest. (Disinterest when doing schoolwork is never a good thing.) As I was reading, I came across something that was so amazing I had to read it twice to believe it. This is what it was:
“As the long bloody war dragged on, revivals broke out in the army camps. Men who were facing death chose to face God first. The interest in the things of God grew stronger as the war continued. Chaplains became common in the army, for they had been rare in previous wars. Christian History estimates that a total of between 200,000 and 300,000 soldiers from both sides accepted Christ as their Savior during the war.”
Isn’t it ironic how in the midst of fighting for what they believed was freedom, they accepted the true freedom that comes from Jesus Christ? They found truth and fought and died for their convictions, although some may have been misguided in their thoughts on slavery and dividing America, they did what they thought was right and stood for their beliefs even when faced with impossible odds. Those that found the truth fought to bring us truth. But what do we do? We toss truth out the window, wishing to be blind so we don’t have to face the truth.
Some people wonder why America is the way she is today. How did we stray so far from the beliefs we were founded upon. Maybe it’s because no one stands for what they believe anymore. Maybe they’re afraid, ashamed or just don’t want to take a stand, but whatever the reason, I want to encourage you to take a stand for what you believe in a world where evil is so prevalent and truth is shrouded in lies. By the way folks, there is still hope for this great country of ours. So, be comforted by this thought, where there’s God, there’s always hope.
